It was nice to see my dad after a couple years of the opposite of seeing him.
I have a lot to say about a lot of things. But blogs are probably the worst place to say things that are important. Probably the worst and second worst place.
I have a couple more ideas about comics floating around. Not a lot of energy to execute them but I like having ideas. I also thought of a fun crafty project that involves hangers and really want to see it done.
I'm reading Jessica Abel & Matt Madden's relatively new book "Drawing Words & Writing Pictures" and it has actually been pretty helpful, not to mention encouraging. I wasn't sure what would be left after "Understanding Comics"... and "Making Comics"... and "Re-Inventing Comics" which I was borrowing from the school library and never finished.
Anyway, DW&WP has a lot of great step-by-step tips like what tools to use and how. I bought an Ames lettering guide a while ago but had no idea how to use it. It's like... a plastic thing with holes in it. The book had all these wonderful illustrations on how to use one and now I'm really excited about getting home and making some parallel lines. Also I need to buy a T-Square.
I finished "10-Cent Plague" a while ago, which Ellen mentioned a couple times in class. It was boring. Ellen wasn't too far into it when she was talking about it and made it sound interesting. The beginning is like "oh wow, it's a serious medium with a well-documented history complete with recent interviews with people who were there!" and it's interesting for a while. And there are all these fresh new faces like fellas named Billy Eisner who are ready to make it big. But then it starts to drag. And you lose steam. And, you know shucks, I wanted to like it. But it fell a little short.
I'm tired. We're going shopping in Shibuya tomorrow. I guess I should take my own advice and not invest so much energy and time into a silly little livejournal. |
